Mateo Scorches Patriots for 3 HR
Thursday, April 29th , 2032
Wylie Coyotes center fielder Carlos Mateo sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Northern Patriots, Mateo told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Mateo pushed the Coyotes past the Patriots, 10-2. To go along with the homers, he collected 5 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Mateo told reporters after the game.
Carlos Mateo hit a solo-shot off Jesse Campbell in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Jesse Campbell in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Shotaro Sugimoto in the 5th, struck out in the 7th and struck out in the 8th.
This season Mateo is batting .298 with 14 hits, 5 home runs, 12 RBIs, 6 walks, .377 OBP and has scored 12 runs. He has played in 14 games.
