EC Hands Out Reliever of the Year Award

At the age of 20, Gijs Sanders says he still has a lot to learn about life in College Baseball.

But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the LSU Tigers reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2031 Eastern Conference Reliever of the Year Award.

"I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the
Westland, The Netherlands native said.

For the season, Sanders had 38 saves in 57 relief appearances, which totaled 63. He fanned 68 betters, while walking 25 and put up a record of 6-5 to go with his 1.57 ERA.

He received 92 first place votes out of a possible 96. Javier Otero of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets finished second in voting, while Valentín Rodríguez of the LSU Tigers finished third with 4 first place votes.
