A good performance from second baseman Juan Mercado helped the Stratford Cosmos defeat the Shelbyville Reds, 4-1. Mercado was 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Cosmos. Chris Sharp got the save, the 12th for him this season. Stratford is now 38-21, Shelbyville 21-38.

With Stratford trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Mercado hit a fastball from Zier Kneepkens for a 2-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Cosmos ahead, 2-1.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Mercado said.
