Buzzards Squelch Martins Offense in Shutout Win
|
The rain did not keep Death Valley and Saint Louis from finishing their game.
Death Valley Buzzards starter Iván Soto was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Saint Louis Martins, 4-0. The winning pitcher was Soto, now 6-3. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5.
The Buzzards got a big at-bat from third baseman Arend Simons. For the game, Simons was 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Death Valley a 3-0 lead.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Soto said.
With the win, Death Valley pushed its record to 31-25.
