Red Birds Go 10 Innings to Beat Napoleon, 6-3
|
In the 6-3 Toronto win over Napoleon, the impact of Rob Newman was substantial. Newman, who finished 4th in the NL in extra base hits with 72 last year, went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Ramón Bravo, now 8-4, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 3 and walking 2. Jorge Gallegos, credited with the save, is now 11 for 12 in save opportunities.
Newman had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a 1-0 fastball from Eisse van Opdorp, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Red Birds a 6-3 lead. It was the 12th home run of the year for Newman.
"Chalk one up for the good guys," said Newman. "I'm sure our fans enjoyed that win."
Toronto is now 67-69, Napoleon 57-79.
