Cleveland Spiders starter Gilberto Martínez pitched a strong game against the Daniel Brand A's at Cy Young Stadium, leading the Spiders to victory, 4-3. The 4th-place Spiders lifted their record to 67-68.

Jerry Pittman went 1 for 3. He drove in 2 runs for Cleveland. The three-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Guillermo Rosa. It was his 45th RBI of the season.
