Juan Mercado made an impact in the 11-6 Stratford win over Omaha. Mercado, who leads the NL in doubles with 44, went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 3 runs. With the win, Stratford raised its record to 84-49.

Stratford got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Rusty Simmons. The third baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cosmos ahead, 10-6. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Cosmos manager George Brandt. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
