The Death Valley Buzzards overcame a fine performance by Brooklyn shortstop Henry Stevens to defeat the Bats, 6-4, at Jackie Robinson Park. Stevens went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Josh Hader recorded the save for Death Valley, his 8th of the season. The Bats, now 8-20, continue their slow start.

Death Valley needed the clutch hitting of José Álvarez to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Buzzards on top, 6-4. For the game, Álvarez had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Álvarez.
