Getting a good performance from second baseman Roberto Peña, the Puerto Rico Tropics defeated the Death Valley Buzzards, 12-5. Peña was 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Tropics. José Castillo went 5 innings for Puerto Rico to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs. He scattered 8 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 2. His record improves to 2-2. The Buzzards fall to 11-14 and continue to sputter in the early going.

Peña contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for Puerto Rico in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 3-1, Peña took a circle change from Júlio Rentería and stroked the double to left. His 5th double of the season allowed the Tropics to leap in front, 4-3.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Peña said. "We did a good job of that today."
