It wasn't easy but the Sparta Racers made it look that way.

Starter Ernesto Martínez shut out the Augusta Minutemen despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Sparta Racers cruised to victory, 15-0. Martínez allowed only 4 hits and rang up 6 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."

On the season Martínez has compiled a 5-10 mark with a 6.97 ERA in 22 starts. In pitching 122.2 innings he has 82 strikeouts and 60 walks while limiting the opposition to a .306 batting average.
