Red Birds Deal Brand A's 4-1 Defeat
|
The Toronto Red Birds got a good effort from starter Steve Mills in defeating the Daniel Brand A's at VBL's Best Ballpark. The final score was 4-1. Mills, now 2-1, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Gonzalo Anaya earned save number 1 this season.
Jorge Flores had a big 2-run home run for the Red Birds in the top of the third inning. With Toronto leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from Humberto Atares and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 4th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Birds ahead, 3-0.
Flores told a Toronto Herald reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
Toronto, now 13-6, has gotten their season off to a good start.
