Austin used a superb performance from starting pitcher Rick Cederberg to down the Vancouver Lynx, 2-1. Mike Cox, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits. Charles Parsons got the save, the 6th for him this season.

Wilson Hernández, who finished 4th in the NL in triples with 11 in 2030, helped out the Austin cause in the bottom of the eighth inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the right fielder was 1-4 with a double.

"We're scuffling right now," said losing manager Dan Boone.

The BigStars, now 10-3, have been sizzling early on.
