Cleveland beat Shelbyville on the strength of starter Gilberto Martínez's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-2. The last-place Reds have dropped 10 straight games.

Cleveland used a timely hit from Raúl Padilla to get the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Spiders ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Shelbyville manager Ken Benton. "But we decided not to take it."
