Cleveland Beats Shelbyville, 5-3
|
The Cleveland Spiders topped the Shelbyville Reds, 5-3, in Nied League action at Pete Rose Field. The standout performance belonged to Cleveland pitcher and Eagan, Minnesota, native Jim Keith. Keith, now 6-2, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs. The losing skid has reached 9 games for Shelbyville.
Cleveland designated hitter Raúl Padilla contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a 2-run single. It was his 125th hit of the season and put the Spiders ahead, 4-0.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Padilla said after the game.
