The Kittanning Union defeated the Shelbyville Reds, 4-1, in Nied League action at The Citizen. Kittanning pitcher Gerardo Ventura had a standout performance. In 7 innings, Ventura surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Rod Brace converted his 19th save in 24 tries.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kittanning catcher Adley Rutschman had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, Rutschman stroked a 2-run single to left. It made the score 2-0, Kittanning. For the game, he went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI.
"Gerardo is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Kittanning manager Dan Haley.
With the victory, the Union upped their record to 61-52.
