Reds Suffer 7-4 Setback
|
Santiago Lucero did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Shelbyville Reds from losing, 7-4, to the Cumberland Copperheads at Pete Rose Field. Lucero went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. Jinrich Batkoka picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-1. Luis Rivera was tagged with the loss. Shelbyville's current losing streak has reached 5 games.
Cumberland used a clutch hit from Sergio Chirole to get the win. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Copperheads ahead, 7-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Ken Benton told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
