Cumberland pitcher Fernando Guzmán did his part in helping his team beat the Bugaboo Creek Caribou, 3-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Roger Taylor earned his 24th save in 29 tries. The third-place Copperheads improved to 52-42.
Cumberland used the bat of Toyotomi Nakamura to get the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Copperheads ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"Nice win for us," said Guzmán. "Now we'll go after the next one."
