Tyler Mumford never let Death Valley get something going. The Puerto Rico right-hander commanded his splitter in pitching the Tropics to a 2-1 win. Mumford, now 6-6, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. With the win, the Tropics improved to 47-36.
Puerto Rico relied on the hitting of Roberto Peña to pick up the win. The second baseman ripped a run-scoring triple in the top of the fourth inning to put the Tropics on top, 2-1. For the game, Peña had 1 triple and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"Bottom line," said Death Valley skipper Brennan Baker, "we didn't play well enough to win."
